The Route

The Global Solo Challenge starts in Vigo, North western Spain, sails down the Atlantic before entering the notorious Southern Ocean where a significant amount of sailing time is spent.

The Cape of Good Hope at the tip of Africa marks the entry point into the Southern Ocean and then it’s a matter of how far south the skippers are prepared to sail to create the shortest circumnavigation.

Cape Leeuwin, the most southern point of Australia marks the moment that the sailors enter the pacific.

Before heading back up the Atlantic to Vigo the participants have the ultimate challenge to face, the rounding of Cape Horn. Crossing Cape Horn is an opportunity to pass the very southernmost latitude of the course. And is usually accompanied by some kind of celebration marking deliverance from the Southern Ocean before the dash up the Atlantic to the finish line
