A Zimbabwean-born life-long sailor with a long-held dream to become the first Zimbabwean to Sail Solo, unassisted and non-stop around the world!
As a child I grew up on a tobacco farm near a small town in landlocked Zimbabwe, hundreds of miles from the ocean but despite humble beginnings I have been sailing since before I could walk starting on the small farm dam, progressing to competitive international dinghy racing as a child to ocean racing as a young adult and now, having worked professionally in the maritime industry for 10 years I have attained a Master of Yachts <3000GT license which in itself speaks for my experience. In my life I have traversed over 80,000 nautical miles under both motor and sail, crossed the Atlantic 15 times and sailed in the roaring forties in the Southern Ocean. I have sailed and skippered everything from dinghies to 60-foot custom racing yachts and served as an officer on some of the world’s most prestigious motor yachts.
I now want to combine my lifelong dream with my lifetime of experience on the water into becoming the first Zimbabwean to accomplish sailing’s biggest challenge of endurance and self-reliance, one that only 194 people in history have ever achieved (as of 2024). To this end I have entered the 2027/28 Global Solo Challenge which will allow me to attempt the circumnavigation under the watchful eyes of experienced sailors the world over.

Born to sail sail
Sailing is in my blood, my grandfather, Ian Fraser was a sailor and partial circumnavigator in his own right, having sailed from Jamaica to Cape Town via the Pacific in the 1950s. He settled in Zimbabwe (then Rhodesia) and never lost his deep connection with sailing and the influence it had on his life, he inspired me from the first time he told me his stories and these grew into a dream to become the youngest person to circumnavigate, however at the age of 13 hailing from a landlocked, cash strapped country with no outside resources I was not able to do so. I therefore spent the intervening 15 years aspiring to get this point where I am experienced and capable to complete this voyage, now begins the task of getting to the start line in 2027.
A personal personal voyage
Although the voyage is a personal one, I intend to use the elevated platform it will give me to champion and support two causes that are close to my heart.
Firstly, the preservation and conservation of the amazing wildlife and wilderness in Zimbabwe . To this end we have partnered with Africa Parks, Africa’s preeminent conservation charity who support the Matusadona region of Zimbabwe amongst their total brief across Africa.
Secondly, a smaller part of the funds will be used to support the significant population of destitute pensioners in Zimbabwe. We are partnering with a domestic charity who visits, supports, houses and feeds many of these folk.
Please visit our charity page and also our about us section to understand further how funds raised will not only support my endeavours but also the two worthwhile causes above.
