Born into a small farming community in Karoi in Zimbabwe my childhood was a happy one which included sailing, riding and a lovely community.
I Went to the local school in Karoi and then onto a boarding school in Harare and after A levels went to the UK to Hartwell House college in Aylesbury. I then worked for merchant banks in the UK for twelve years before returning to Zimbabwe and ending up getting married.
My most important part in this project is that I gave birth to Fraser and hence started this whole process. We had a large farm dam and had many happy days canoeing in canvas boats and sailing on our lovely Matilda “Hooligan”
I have had experience in many facets of various business including credit controller for a hardware company in Karoi, managing a fuel garage during one of our many fuel shortages, running a houseboat enterprise, and managing a pharmaceutical wholesaler which led to the children proudly saying that “Mum is a drug dealer”. I am still involved in many volunteer associations and have been President of the National Association of Garden Clubs for over twelve years in several terms as well as being Treasurer for the National Karate Union for fifteen years in two terms. I am also a Horticultural Judge and passionate about my gardening. I write regular garden articles for a national bi-monthly magazine.
We have always encouraged the boys in their pursuits and Fraser has always been madly keen on sailing and used to practice knots in his spare time which led to us having knotted ropes all over the place. We have an annual sailing school which is held at our local lake, Chivero and we were all regular attendees.
Now my life is calming down and I mostly site boreholes using my divining skills all round Zimbabwe and at times into Malawi, South Africa and Zambia. Little did I know that this skill would end up locating the biggest water yet on which my son could sail.
